The Rockefeller Institute of Government, in conjunction with the Government Law Center of Albany Law School, returned to the topic of the collective bargaining rights of public employees and the cost of employee compensation with a debate between former legislators John Faso and Richard Brodsky. In this video, Brodsky offers his opening statements. The former state Assemblyman argued that the ability of employees to come together to negotiate salaries and working conditions is a uniquely American right, and that union leaders are responsible enough to understand the state's fiscal concerns at the bargaining table. "Collective bargaining represents democracy in the workplace," Brodsky said./p>
