    Highlights

  • New York's 35,600 farms produced $3.6 billion worth of products, down from $3.7 billion in 2004.
  • Leading vegetable crops for fresh market use were sweet corn, onions, cabbage, pumpkins, and squash.
  • New York's 650,000 milk cows as of the end of 2005 were producing 1 billion pounds of milk in December of that year, or 1,545 pounds per cow.
  • Apple production totaled 1,040 million pounds in 2005, down from 1,280 million pounds in 2004.
  • New York's egg-laying chicken population was nearly 4 million at the end of 2004; they produced over one billion eggs, for an average of 286 eggs per chicken.
