Highlights

The State's 207 State parks and historic sites were visited nearly 54 million times in the 2006 fiscal year.
There were 231 forest fires in New York in 2006, nearly three times that of 2004.
The 226 rescue missions conducted by the department of Environmental Conservation in 2006 consumed 15,708 staff hours.
There were 34 hunting accidents in 2004, the second fewest in over 60 years.
There were 43 active solid waste disposal sites in 2007, compared to 861 in 1970.
There were 849 Inactive Waste Disposal Sites in 2007; 500 of these were Class 2 sites.
