  • The unemployment rate in New York was 5.0 percent in 2007, up from 4.5 percent in 2006.
  • Personal income in New York State totaled $864.7 billion in 2007, a 12 percent increase over 2005.
  • There were 782 thousand people employed in finance and insurance in New York in 2002, 11.9 percent of the national employment in this sector. New York's payroll in the finance and insurance sector was $80.3 billion, 21 percent of the national payroll in the sector.
  • There were 642 thousand manufacturing employees in New York State in 2002, earning $25.4 billion.
  • There were 1.2 million health care and social assistance employees in New York State in 2002, earning $43.5 billion.
  • There were $30.5 billion in construction contracts in New York in 2006, up 16 percent from 2005.
  • There were almost 2,250 active mines in New York in 2006, affecting 64 thousand acres.
