    Highlights

  • Voter registration in New York State exceeded 11.2 million in 2007, down from 11.6 in 2006.
  • 7.4 million New Yorkers voted in the 2004 Presidential election, 400,000 more than in 2000.
  • John Kerry received the votes of 4.3 million New Yorkers for President in 2004, winning 21 counties; George W. Bush received 3 million votes and won 41 counties.
  • In 2007, 47.4 percent of registered voters in New York State were enrolled as Democrats, 26.8 percent were enrolled as Republicans.
  • In the 2006 elections for New York State Legislature, there was no major party opposition in 20 of the 62 Senate districts and in 44 of the 150 Assembly districts.
