Highlights

The civilian labor force in New York State was 9.5 million in 2006.
The unemployment rate in New York State was 4.5 percent in 2006, down from 5 percent in 2005.
The average weekly wages for private sector employees in New York State was $1,019 in 2005.
Personal income per capita in New York State was $38,264 in 2004. New York County (Manhattan) had the highest personal income per capita at $89,328 in 2004. Allegany County had the lowest personal income per capita at $20,531 in 2044.
There were 568 thousand employees of manufacturing industries in New York during 2006.
There were 1.5 million government employees of all levels of government in New York State in 2006; more than a third of these worked at elementary and secondary schools.
