  • The civilian labor force in New York State was 9.5 million in 2006.
  • The unemployment rate in New York State was 4.5 percent in 2006, down from 5 percent in 2005.
  • The average weekly wages for private sector employees in New York State was $1,019 in 2005.
  • Personal income per capita in New York State was $38,264 in 2004. New York County (Manhattan) had the highest personal income per capita at $89,328 in 2004. Allegany County had the lowest personal income per capita at $20,531 in 2044.
  • There were 568 thousand employees of manufacturing industries in New York during 2006.
  • There were 1.5 million government employees of all levels of government in New York State in 2006; more than a third of these worked at elementary and secondary schools.
