Highlights

There were approximately 54,000 full-time uniformed police in New York State in 2006. Sixty-seven percent were employed by the New York City Police Department.
The crime rate in New York State was 2,464.0 per 100,000 population in 2006. This includes murder, rape, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, larceny, and motor vehicle theft.
There were approximately 4.3 million filings in New York State trial courts in 2005.
There were 63,536 inmates in state correctional facilities in November 2006. Over 95 percent of the inmates were men.
Over 85 percent of all discrimination complaints filed in New York State in fiscal year 2006-07 were employment related.
There were 1.2 million fire department calls in New York State in 2005, including fires, rescue/EMS, and false alarms; about 90,000 of these calls were for fires.
