New York State's homeownership rate was the lowest among the 50 states in 2005 — 56 percent compared to the national rate of 69 percent.
There were 7.7 million housing units in New York State in 2000.
3.7 million New York housing units were owner-occupied in 2000.
There were 320 thousand sales of existing homes in New York State during 2005, compared to 273 thousand in 2000.
The median sale price of single-family homes in New York State in 2006 was $249 thousand, compared to $255 thousand in 2005.
There were over 55 thousand REALTORS® in New York State on December 31, 2006.
There were over 48 thousand units in affordable housing projects in New York State on December 31, 2006.
There were $26 billion worth of construction contracts in New York State in 2005.
