    Highlights

  • Voter registrations in New York State exceeded 11.3 million in 2008, up from 11.2 million in 2007.
  • 7.4 million New Yorkers voted in the 2004 Presidential election, 400,000 more than in 2000.
  • In 2008, 47.8 percent of registered voters in New York State were enrolled as Democrats, 26.6 percent were enrolled as Republicans.
  • In the 2006 election for New York State Legislature, there was no major party opposition in 20 of the 62 Senate districts and in 44 of 150 Assembly districts.
  • In 2007, New York State voters approved an amendment to the Constitution in relation to the use of forest preserve lands for wells for a municipal water supply in the hamlet of Raquette Lake, Hamilton County
