Information on energy production and utilization in New York State — including electricity generation; energy usage and demand; oil and gas consumption; and nuclear power generation.

Highlights

526 trillion Btu’s of energy were produced in New York in 2006.
4,000 trillion Btu’s of energy were consumed in 2006, almost eight times more than New York produced.
New Yorkers paid over $59 billion for all types of energy in 2006, 3.1 percent more than in 2005.
Petroleum products provided 39 percent of the energy consumed in New York State in 2006, followed by natural gas at 27 percent.
New York has six of the nation’s 104 nuclear power plants and they supplied 11 percent of the State’s energy consumption in 2005.
