  • The civilian labor force in New York State was over 9.6 million in 2008.
  • From 1960 to 2008, employment nationwide rose by 152.4 percent, compared to 42.3 percent in New York State.
  • The average weekly wage for private sector employees in New York State was $1,181 in 2007.
  • Personal income per capita in New York State was $48,076, in 2009. New York County (Manhattan) had the highest personal income per capita at $110,292 in 2006. Allegany County had the lowest personal income per capita at $22,799 in 2006.
  • There were 534,100 employees of manufacturing industries in New York in 2008.
  • There were 1.512 million employees of all levels of government in New York State in 2008; more than a third of those worked at elementary and secondary schools.
