    Highlights

  • In 2007, New York’s 36,400 farms produced $4.4 billion worth of products, up from $3.5 billion in 2006.
  • Leading vegetable crops for fresh market use were sweet corn, onions, cabbage, snap beans, and pumpkins.
  • New York’s 626,000 milk cows produced over 1 billion pounds of milk in December 2008, or 1,640 pounds per cow.
  • Apple production totaled 1,210 million pounds in 2008, down from 1,310 million pounds in 2007.
  • New York’s egg-laying chicken population was just over 4.1 million at the end of 2008; they produced over 1 billion eggs during the year, for an average of 294 eggs per chicken.
