    Highlights

  • There were 52,864 full-time uniformed police in New York State in 2010. Sixty-seven percent were employed by the New York City Police Department.
  • The crime rate in New York State was 2,318.0 per 100,000 population in 2010. This includes murder, rape, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, larceny, and motor vehicle theft.
  • There were approximately 3.8 million filings in New York State trial courts in 2010.
  • There were 58,664 inmates in state correctional facilities as of March 31, 2010. Over 95 percent of the inmates were men.
  • Over 82 percent of all discrimination complaints filed in New York State in fiscal year 2010-11 were employment related.
  • There were over 1.8 million emergency calls in New York State in 2010, including fires, overpressure ruptures, rescue/EMS, and false alarms, and other; 86,633 of these calls were for fires.
