    Highlights

  • In 2010, there were 36,300 farms in New York, up from 35,000 in 2006.
  • Leading vegetable crops for fresh market use in 2011 were cabbage, cauliflower, pumpkins, snap beans, squash, sweet corn, and onions.
  • New York’s 610,000 milk cows produced over one billion pounds of milk in December 2011, or 1,755 pounds per cow.
  • Apple production totaled 1,220 million pounds in 2011, down from 1,270 million pounds in 2010.
  • New York’s egg-laying chicken population was over four million at the end of 2010; they produced over one billion eggs during the year, for an average of 293 eggs per chicken.
