    Highlights

  • Close to 2.964 million students were enrolled in public and nonpublic elementary and secondary schools in Fall 2014, over one-quarter below the peak enrollment of 4.3 million in 1970.
  • New York’s public elementary and secondary schools had 207,558 classroom teachers serving over 2.5 million students in 2014 compared to 188,817 teachers serving 3.5 million students in 1970.
  • New York’s public elementary and secondary schools spent $58.4 billion in 2013.
  • There were 897,740 full-time and 373,683 part-time students in degree-credit enrollments in New York’s higher education institutions in 2013.
  • There were approximately 454,839 full- and part-time students enrolled in the sixty-four campuses of the State University of New York (SUNY) in the Fall of 2014.
  • An estimated 302,476 students received State Tuition Assistance Program (TAP) aid in the year 2013-14, down from 305,120 from 2012-13.
  • The New York State Archives contained 142,815 cubic feet of holdings in 2014 and fielded 39,462 research inquiries.
