    Highlights

  • 2.4 million patients were discharged from hospitals in New York State in 2013.
  • 6,939 New Yorkers were admitted to state psychiatric centers in fiscal year 2013-14.
  • Almost 278,000 people were admitted to chemical dependency treatment in New York in 2014. About 131,000 were outpatient services.
  • Over 701,600 New Yorkers received a total of more than $4.9 billion in Supplemental Security Income in 2014.
  • The average monthly number of Medicaid beneficiaries in New York was close to 4.8 million in 2014, an increase of approximately 298,314 from 2013. Sixty-one percent of the recipients lived in New York City.
  • Slightly over three million New Yorkers received a total of approximately $5.1 billion in SNAP benefits in 2014.
  • There were 18,901 children in foster care in New York State on December 31, 2013, a 4.9 percent decrease compared to December 31, 2012.
