Call for Proposals

The Rockefeller Institute of Government is pleased to announce a call for presentation proposals for its annual Local Government Lab

The Local Government Lab is an annual one-day gathering of local government researchers, practitioners, and policymakers. The event is a showcase of both academic and applied research, policy, and practice on state and local governance issues.

This year’s event will focus on the infrastructure needs of municipal governments. What are the challenges and opportunities that localities are facing in terms of building, maintaining, and financing the essential investments in physical assets—such as roads, water and waste systems, broadband, and public facilities—that are required for their community’s economic growth, safety, and quality of life? How are local governments engaging in prioritization, decision-making, funding, and implementation of critical infrastructure needs? To what degree are state and federal policies successfully supporting, or not, the essential services provided by localities?

We invite individuals, organizations, and particularly local government leaders to submit proposals for the presentation of active research or practice relevant to the conference theme. We welcome in-progress work which can include academic or applied research, as well as case studies as to how localities are managing or leveraging opportunities around critical infrastructure demands.

Submission Guidelines and Timeline

Please submit:

  1. a working title for the presentation;
  2. a 100-300 word abstract of the planned presentation that includes a clear statement of how the proposal relates to the conference themes; and
  3. a brief professional biographical blurb (name, title, affiliation, research/practical interests) for the individual(s) who will be making the presentation.

Please note that individual presentation length is not likely to exceed 10-12 minutes. Full panel submission that incorporates both academic, practitioner, or policy expertise will be considered.

Submission constitutes an agreement that one of the presenters will attend in person and permission to record and share presentation materials.
